Virginia Mae McFatridge, 91, of Brooklyn and formerly of Chelsea, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 14 at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with Rev. Charles Johnson presiding. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial is in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea. Virginia was born November 26, 1923 in Aliceville, Kansas to John and Carrie Loschen Hilligas. She attended school through the 8th grade. She married R. D. McFatridge on November 1, 1943 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She had owned and operated a café in Chelsea for several years. Later she worked as a waitress for area restaurants. The past few years she resided at the Brooklyn Community Estates. She is survived by sons, Robert (Sandy) McFatridge of Marion and Richard McFatridge of St. Anne, Illinois; daughters, Linda Bracy, and Patty McFatridge, both of Brooklyn; Sharon (Tim) Siebels of Cedar Rapids and Terry Clark of Centerville; brother, Earl Hilligas of Baux, Arkansas; sisters Doris (Larry) Frese of Chelsea, Frances (Bob) Kaufman of Traer, Elsie Blomme and Nancy Masterson, both of Belle Plaine; also by seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers John, Merle, and Calvin; and sister, Dorothy Prusha; son-in-law, David Bracy, Sr.; grandson Casey McFatridge; and several brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
