Richard "Dick" J. VanDeWalle, 87, formerly of Chelsea, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell following a lingering illness. Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea with Deacon Joe Behounek presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the service time Wednesday at the church. Dick is survived by his wife Mary Lou of Grinnell; son, Rick (Jody) of Chelsea; daughters, Julie (Mark) Vavroch of Montezuma and Susan (Wayne) Glenn of Quincy, IL; sisters, Marilyn Meister of Berwyn, IL; and Cheryl (Richard) Duchacek of Cedar Rapids; brother, David (Suzi) VanDeWalle of Chelsea; also by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
