Marcella "Sis" Garwood Olson, Cedar Rapids, IA. died August 25, 2012 in Iowa City at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway, IA by Father Craig Steimel. Visitation will be in St. Michael's Parish Center, Tuesday, 4PM -8PM. 7 PM will be a Prayer Service and remembrance time. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Norway, IA with Hrabak Funeral Home in charge. Marcella was born Feb. 14, 1923, to Delbert and Anna Siepmann Garwood in Norway, Iowa. She was baptized in St. Michael's Catholic Church and attended the Parish Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduated from Norway High School in 1941. On April 5th, 1942 she was married to Loraine Otis Olson, son of Peter M. and Nellie Johnson Olson in St. Michael's Parsonage by Father Kunkel. Loraine died May 26, 1977 in Iowa Falls, IA. Marcella is survived by one son, Thomas (Devonay) Olson, Ramona, CA. and four daughters, Mary Suzanne Olson, Wheat Ridge, CO., Jan (Tom) Vrban, Coralville, IA, Marcia (Steve) Tiffany, Fairfield, IA, Terese (Doug) Siedsma, West Bend, WI. Six grandchildren, Jon (Jessica) Fogarty, Sara Fogarty (David) Hasler, TJ (Sara) Siedsma, Chad (Jessica) Siedsma, Michael (Karen) Siedsma, Micah (Maricela, fiancee) Olson and 6 great grandchildren, Isabella Claire, Annalise, Winston and Isaac Hasler, and Jacob Siedsma. Two brothers and a sister survive, Merle (Leota) Garwood, Dennis (Pat) Garwood, Jane (Rich) Himmelsbach and sister in law Rita Garwood, as well as many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends including Sr. Natalie McDonough, RSM. Preceding Marcella in death, besides her husband, mother and father, are brothers and sister in law, George, Sr. and Marie Garwood, Virgil Garwood and sisters and brothers in law, Bernadine and Leroy Marks, Ila and Wilfred Duncalf. Marcella will be remembered for her many active years in the Norway American Legion Auxilliary # 234, her volunteer work at St. Jude's School Library and the her many friends she kept in touch with at St. Ludmilla's, St. Jude's, in Cedar Rapids and St. Mark's in Iowa Falls and especially St. Michael's in Norway. She loved to travel, do cross word puzzles, write letters and take her grand kids on trips. She spent decades working on genealogy and family trees. Memorials may be given to Oak Hill Cemetery in Norway, IA to upgrade the cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the family in care of Jan Vrban.
