James L. Hayek II, 69, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Fri. Oct. 5, 2018 surround by his family.

Service is 6:30 p.m. Sat. Oct. 6th at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will take place at Rector Cemetery, Chelsea, IA at a later date.

James was born Oct. 5, 1949 to James and Bernice Hayek in Chelsea. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Chelsea and graduated from South Tama High School in 1968. Following school, James daughter Dawn was born. James went to work for Asplundh Tree Co. for 25 years as a Forman Tree Trimer. Then worked for American Color Graphics in Marengo for 20 years until retirement. James married Anna VanSpeybroeck and to this union Christina and Cole were born.

James enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was the first to shoot a wild Turkey in Tama Co. in the late 70's. When not outdoors, he liked to spend time socializing at the Oasis. He made many memories traveling with friends and family cross country through the back roads. James was a great father and friend to many. Most of all he loved spending time with his children and family. He appreciated them coming home to care for him.

He is survived by his children, Dawn Hayek (Kurt Johnston) of Hilmar, CA, Cole Hayek of IA and Christina Hayek of Oelwein; grandchildren, Alexandria Garcia, Ashley, Arturo, Alejandro "Shorty" and Alyssa Vargas, Devan Eichhorn, Trey, Kayla and Madison Johnston; niece, Angie Emerson; nephew, Todd Emerson and Michael McGuire, and many more loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

James is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Seth Hayek; brother, Michael McGee; sisters, Pattie Goers and Becky Sichra; and nephew, Michael Goers.
