Jack Dee Griffith, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on February 13, 2026, after a long and courageous medical battle.
Jack was born on May 20, 1947, to Dale and Arlene (Lubben) Griffith in Monticello. He grew up and graduated from the Prairie High School, Cedar Rapids area before continuing his education in the electrical field. Throughout his career, Jack worked various jobs in the electrical field; an electrical estimator, field instructor and design build where his strong work ethic and discipline were well respected. Jack was awarded the IBEW Life Saving Award.
In 1966, Jack was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era.
Jack married Barb Hoppe and they were blessed with Mark and Jennifer before they later went their separate ways. On October 20, 1989 Jack married Barb Bussey-Mantz, in Belle Plaine, IA. Through this marriage, he gained another daughter, Rachel. Together, Jack and Barb were blessed with Melinda and Darcy. Over the years, their journey took them to Chicago, Kansas City, and Wyoming before eventually settling back home in Iowa.
Jack was a knowledgeable and passionate Ham radio operator who enjoyed tracing satellites and mastering Morse code. He also liked fishing local lakes, target shooting, and watching old westerns or Star Trek. He loved traveling to the mountains and beaches with family and friends.
Jack was known for his wit and great sense of humor. He was hardworking and an all-around tough guy who dedicated himself to his work and to providing for his family. He will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the love he had for those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Mark Griffith, Jennifer (Steve) Kwan, Rachel (Darric) McLeod, Melinda Crane and Darcy Griffith; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, Scott Griffith and many more family and friends.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deanna and brother, Gary.
A Celebration of Life will be 3-6 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the VFW Post 788, 3240 Southgate Pl Cedar Rapids, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to help with medical and funeral expenses.
