GARY ALLEN LOUGH, 77 of Luzerne, Iowa passed away on January 8, 2025 at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Gary was born May 13, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Lester and Evelyn (Ritz) Lough. He married Marilyn J. Closser July 3, 1965. Gary graduated from Davis County High School, Bloomfield, Iowa in 1965; and graduated from Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a B.A. Degree in Computer Science in 1988. He was an engineer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 36 years and retired in 2009. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, Iowa.
Gary had a deep and strong faith in God, and demonstrated this through his service, as well as through his love and devotion to his family. He enjoyed participating in the church choir and listening to his favorite Gospel music, especially the Gaither Vocal Band. He also participated in choral arrangements with his parents, siblings, and other close relatives. Most of all, He loved to share his faith to others.
Gary loved hunting, fishing, and was an avid outdoorsman. When he was younger, he also enjoyed canoe trips and camping with his family.
Gary was an ardent bowler in his younger years. He spent a lot of time with his wife, Marilyn, and close friends at the bowling alley every week.
Gary was very knowledgeable and curious about anything electronic or mechanical. He tinkered with computers and taught himself how to program them. He also took pride in being his own mechanic. He worked on his vehicles, whether it be cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, etc. He enjoyed the puzzle of repairing any problems.
He is survived by his wife; Marilyn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons, Roger (Karen) Lough of Luzerne, Iowa, Mike (Angie) Lough, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Tammy (Nicole) Schroeder of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Trevor (Hanna) Lough of Pella, Iowa, Kelsey (Will) Bird of Luzerne, Iowa, Alexis Lough of Troy Mills, Iowa, Savannah Lough; four great grandchildren, Millie, Maren, Kinley, and Wrenley; two sisters, Janet (Chuck) McVey of Rose Hill, Iowa, Roseanne (Larry) Van Horn of Springfield, Virginia; one brother Warren (Bonnie) Lough of Kingsport, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, Iowa with family present one hour prior. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine at a later date.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 15th at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
Gary was very strong and battled Alzheimer's Disease for many years. The family would like to thank Jackson Ridge Healthcare Center for the exceptional care he recieved throughout his stay there. Our thankfulness extends beyond any words expressed. The family is also deeply grateful for the end of life care that Gary recieved at Jackson County Regional Healthcare Center.
