Gary "Cooper" Brecht, 75, of Liberty, MO, passed away from cancer on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. He was born January 10, 1940 in Iowa County, IA, and graduated from Norway High School. He was united in marriage to Joy Ann Elliott on February 19, 1966, at St. Michael's Church in Norway. He spent his 41-year career with Nissen/Universal, Cedar Rapids, IA. Survivors include his wife of 49+ years, Joy Brecht; children, Julie Jasumback (John), Jill Malone (Nat Holcomb) and Jeff Brecht (Erma); four grandchildren, a great-grandson; four siblings, Garlyn Kimm, Beth Haage (Rich), Bill Brecht (Mary) and Terry Brecht (Linda); as well as many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Lila (Emanuel) Brecht; and siblings, Donna, Richard, John and Eldon Brecht. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm, with Rosary at 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, December 1, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, IA. Mass will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 2, at St. Michael's Church. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
