Faye L. Deitch Cranston, 99, of Dysart, IA passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospice House Monday, June 3, 2019.


Faye Louise Deitch was born to Edwin Don Deitch and Ethyl Johnston Deitch on July 20th 1919 in Kirkville, Iowa and was baptized in the Methodist church. She graduated from Kirkville High School in 1936 having participated in music, speech and basketball. In 1938 she married William Cranston in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After farming a few years, they moved to Dysart where Bill was employed at Elson Dairy.


As the family grew, she was a Sunday School teacher, a Cub Scout den mother and Brownie leader and also held various office positions in the church and UMW. Faye was a member of the Women's Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years and also was the Meals on Wheels coordinator. As their children got older, she worked at Herberger's Fabric and Northwest Fabric in Waterloo then worked for NaBeJo and Midwest Chenilling in Dysart for 20 years.


Faye enjoyed being with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and reading, baking, sewing brides and prom dresses for daughters and granddaughters and loved having family gatherings at her house.


Faye is preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1992; one brother, Edwin Don and a sister, Charlotte McCormick; one grandson; one great-grandson; two nieces; two nephews and two daughters-in-law.


She is survived by eight children, Larry, Carole, Chuck (Mary), Rita, Craig (Marjorie), Deb (John), Ron (Cathy) and Lori (Lon); 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.


Faye has donated her body to the University of Iowa for scientific research. Memorials may be given to the Dysart Fire Department, Dysart Ambulance or to the family.


A service and celebration of life will be held at the Dysart United Methodist Church Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 1pm.
