Dorothy (Fant) Plagmann, 98, of Norway, Iowa passed away April 10, 2021 at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dorothy was born August 26, 1922 on a farm near Williamsburg, Iowa, attended Pilot Grove
rural school, later completed high school at Kirkwood Community College and received her BA
degree from Coe College at age 80 in 2003, where she was a member of Mortar Board, &
National Honor Society.
She is survived by two daughters Sharon (Tom) Harrington, Ft. Myers, FL, Vicki (Gary)
Boddicker, Norway, and one son Ron (Darlene) Plagmann, Waukee, IA. Grandchildren:
Christopher (Mandy) Harrington, Michael (Loriena) Harrington, Jennifer (Kevin) Stallman,
Jamie Wendel, Angella (Matt) Losee & Allison Plagmann; 11 great grandchildren: Riley &
Maggie Harrington, Allissa, Ashlyn, Tucker & Taryn Stallman, Emma & Abby Wendel, Evan &
Hunter Lo see & Eli Plagmann. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 47 years,
Merritt Plagmann, her parents Axel & Minnie (Klever) Fant & 3 brothers & 5 sisters.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the Norway United Methodist Church. She was an avid
quilter. Over the years Dorothy made many crafts and generously crocheted over 6000 baby
caps for the St. Luke's Hospital where she volunteered for 18 years for the St. Luke's Auxiliary
and Volunteers. She also did volunteer work for the Red Cross.
Dorothy was a member of the Benton County Farm Bureau, Jolly Dames and was an active 4-H
leader where she was made an honorary member. She contributed pieces to the Iowa Sesqui-Centennial quilt and a block for the Iowa Farmer Today quilt and made blocks for the St. Luke's Hospice quilts. She exhibited in state and local fairs. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Cedar Rapids and Thimble Twisters Sewing Club.
Dorothy was a member of the Kirkwood Alumni Board for 4 years and has been active in
various school a nd local community activities. Dorothy lived on a "Century Farm" outside
Norway, Iowa since 1953. She and her husband spent 17 winters in Mesa AZ until Merritt's
death in 1989.
One of Dorothy's favorite quotes "It's not how much you do, but how much you help others"
exemplified her life.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Norway United Methodist Church.
Private service will take place at Norway United Methodist Church with livestream at 11:00
a.m. Thursday, April 15 2021 through Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service Facebook page. Burial
will take place at Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family.
