Arlene L. Silhanek, 92, of Belle Plaine, Iowa died on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 23 at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 22. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining. Arlene was born October 23, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Mehlhouse) Tecklenburg. She grew up in rural Keystone, graduating from Keystone High School in 1939. She married Michael C. Silhanek on November 6, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1974. Arlene and her husband farmed in the Elberon and Belle Plaine areas until moving to Belle Plaine in 1974. For several years Arlene worked at Moore's Bakery. Arlene is survived by her 4 children: Michael J. (Marilyn), of Elberon, Roger R. (Carolyn) of Belle Plaine, Larry D. (Susan) of Melbourne, FL, and Nancy S. (Donald) Wolfe of Maynard; also 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty (Emil) Kapucian and Marjorie (Melvin) Schulte, both of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law Jane Tecklenburg of Arlington, TX; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Harvey.
