Wilma Ann Jesina, 87, of Elberon died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Cedar Rapids from complications of aging. Private family services will be Friday at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine by Rev. Charles Johnson. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; daughters, Linda Jesina, Michelle (Jim) Rose, both of Cedar Rapids and Roxanne (Pat Vagle) Jesina of North Liberty; sons, Richard (Connie) Jesina of Wellington, KS, Bill (Luey) Jesina of Marshalltown and Tim (Deb) Jesina of North Liberty; eight grandchildren, Mercedes Shriver, Jeff Jesina, Chris Jesina, Lisa Bengston, Derrick Rose, Larissa Jesina, Dalacy Jesina, and Jarod Jesina; six great-grandchildren, Rick Knowlton, Dan Knowlton, Sean Blommers, Nicholas Shriver, Waylon Jesina, and Wrangler Jesina; sister-in-law, Mildred Machan of California; brother-in-law, Milvoy Jesina of Cedar Rapids.
Wilma was born June 21, 1921 in Elberon to William and Anna Kozik Kucera. She attended Elberon school and graduated at sixteen. She first attended Coe College with music in mind but later transferred to the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, where she obtained a teaching certificate. On August 11, 1941 she married Leo Jesina in Missouri. She taught for 40 years in country schools and also in the Vining, Van Horne, and Traer areas. She had also worked in the Norgaard Law Office in Belle Plaine after her retirement in 1986.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Judith, “sister” Vi, and many other loved relatives.
Music was one of Wilma’s great loves. She played piano and accordion for bands in the area, gave piano lessons, taught school, and raised seven children. She was a member of the Legion Auxillary for 75 years and the Rebekahs Lodge.
