Ruth Anna Rosina Koehn, formerly of Belle Plaine, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Meth-Wick in Cedar Rapids of complications from Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine by Rev. Dean Duncan. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the church. A private burial will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Victor prior to the services. A luncheon will follow the memorial service. Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is serving the family.
Ruth was born December 17, 1912 at Louisville, Nebraska, to Louise and Frederick Voigtman. She was baptized on January 12, 1913, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 10, 1927, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Victor. She married Frank Koehn of rural Victor on August 16, 1936 and they spent their working years farming the Koehn family farm. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Belle Plaine where she lived until entering a nursing home. She is survived by her daughter, Kay (Roger) Cook of Belle Plaine; sons, Lonny (Sharon) of Victor, and Terry (Darcy) of Iowa City; a brother, Paul (Jean) Voigtman of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Beata, four brothers, Frederick, Norman, Lee, Oris, and grandson, Jason Koehn.
Until recent years, Ruth was very active in the Lutheran Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and an accomplished cook. Regardless of where she was, visiting or otherwise, she could always be found helping out in the kitchen. She also enjoyed quilting and made many quilts which she gave away as gifts.
Memorials may be designated for the First Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran Church. |
