Matthew Eric Root, 41, of Belle Plaine died Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following a courageous seventeen year battle with Spinocerebellar Ataxia. Per his wishes his body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Hrabak Funeral Home is serving the family.
He is survived by his father, Monte Root of Belle Plaine; his mother, Priscilla Root of Aurora, CO; brother, Joshua (Michelle) Root of Oxford; sisters, Elizabeth Root of Orlando, FL and Stephanie Stock of Buckingham, IA; niece and nephew, Sophia and Colin Matthew Root.
The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the National Ataxia Foundation or the Essence of Life Hospice.
Although Matthew lost his battle with this horrific neuromuscular disease, he is not defined by it. He is a beacon of courage and hope in how he fought in this life and in his deserved eternal peace beyond.
