Lottie J. Strachan, 89, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama following an extended illness. Private family services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Hrabak Funeral Home by Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine.
She is survived by sons, Richard Novotny (and good friend Patsy Musel) of Belle Plaine, Marvin (Barbara) Novotny of Newhall, Allen (Luann) Novotny of Manchester, Leon (Sherryl) Novotny of Belle Plaine; daughter, Beverly (Novotny) DeNeve of Victor; sister, Helen Zeman of Tama; also surviving are twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Agnes Staffenbeal, and a brother, Fred Bartachek.
Lottie Julia Bartachek Strachan was born January 15, 1919 on a farm near Chelsea, the daughter of Frank and Julia Kaufman Bartachek. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and a rural area school.
Lottie married Otto Novotny at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vining in 1938. They lived on a farm south of Clutier for thirteen years before moving to Belle Plaine. Otto passed away October 16, 1960. She later married George “Dewey” Strachan and he passed away in 1976.
Lottie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. She worked at Amana Refrigeration in Middle Amana retiring after twenty-seven years.
She was a lover of birds, flowers, her garden, and any outdoor work. |
