George H. Votrobeck

George H. Votrobeck, 81, of Elberon died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his home following a short illness. Services will be 10:30 Wednesday at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine by Rev Norman Bennett. Burial will be in the Irving Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

George H. Votrobeck was born on a farm west of Clutier, IA on July 6, 1928, the third child born to Charles and Emily (Adamek) Votrobeck.  He attended Carroll No. 3 School until 4th grade in 1938.  When the family moved to the farm northwest of Elberon, he attended Waltham School through the eighth grade, then spending the next four years at Elberon High School, where he graduated in 1946.

On August 25, 1947 George married Lorayne Nebendahl, daughter of Emil and Alberta (Letch) Nebendahl at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.  They lived south of Elberon one year and then moved to the farm northwest of Elberon.  It was with this move that George and Lorayne decided this would be their home for raising their five children and the home in which he would leave this life on earth.  On this farm, George farmed the land, raised livestock, and used his skills as a carpenter, welder, repairer, and inventor.  His inventions had what were known by family as a Bohemie Patent.

George enjoyed relaxation and family time fishing on his boat at Holiday Lake and Lake Pepin in Minnesota.  He also found pleasure visiting with friends over games of Dice and Double-Twelve Dominoes.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorayne Votrobeck; three sons and two daughters and their spouses: Richard (Barbara) Votrobeck of Arthur, Brenda (Terry) Kerr of Marion, Robert (Mary Jo) Votrobeck of Cedar Rapids, Ronald (Maxine) Votrobeck of Elberon, and Bonnie (Morris J.) Biddle of Orion, IL; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Leona Cecak of Toledo and Lillian (Les) Havran of Marshalltown.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emily Votrobeck.
